Description

Brunello is Argiano’s soul and identity, based in Montalcino, this famous Brunello producer founded in 1850 is now owned by Countess Noemi Marone Cinzano, from the famous Vermouth producing family. Their portfolio has many other gems including this Toscana Rosso, further supported by the Argiano motto ‘Non Confunditur’, found on the family crest. It means ‘unique’ and to translate directly to English, non-conforming. Pushing the boundaries and making wines a cut above the rest, a motto to aspire to. This Toscana is a wine with heritage and class, whilst not conforming to a recipe. Lucky for us because the results are compelling.

Smells

a heady perfume rises from the glass; salted black liquorice, wild red berries, tapenade, brown spice with hints of cedar and leather.

Tastes

This is a wine of substance and power with the potential to age 8-10years+ in a temperature-controlled cellar. And for the record, this is worth every penny. Certainly, no wallflower, complex, savoury, brown spice, and leather flavours rule the palate balanced by red and dark berry fruits. Robust, rustic tannins are attention-seeking but engaging rather than dominating. Delicious but needs time, if you cannot resist opening immediately, decant one to two hours prior to serving. Perfect with pasta, stews, and hearty Italian cuisine. The recommended serving temperature is 16-18 degrees.
