Description

95-96/100 + Gold Medal. Grown in Puglia, the heel of the boot of Italy, down south, where the climate is very warm. You get bold, luxurious, characterful reds like this Masso Antico Negroamaro Leggermente Appassite IGT 2024. "Leggermente Appassite" means the wine is fermented with partially dried grapes concentrating the sugar and flavours, giving additional colour and body to the finished wine. Negroamaro is renowned for its dark colour and intense fruit, enhanced by the slight raisining of the grapes which occurs naturally on the vine. This luxurious Masso Antico has mouth coating fine tannins that perfectly compose its rich flavours. This is a whole lot of Red at a very modest price. If you’ve had the Masso Antico Primitivo you’re almost certain to like this Negroamaro, if you are a fan of full-bodied Barossa Shiraz, you should equally enjoy this superb Italian Red.

Smells

Fantastic impact on the nose, with rich red & dried fruits infused with floral and spice notes in abundance.

Tastes

The palate is warm, luscious and velvety but fresh at the same time, where the soft, smooth tannins coat the cheeks and tongue, adding to the all-over luxuriously rich texture. Drinking superbly now through 2028 and will pair perfectly with grilled lamb, meatballs, or hearty winter soups. It’s also very delicious by itself.

I was unsure about whether I had made the right choice in the absence of the Masso Antico Primitivo - this is an exceptional wine gentle to the pallet, ripe plum, mulberry, soft summer fruits will see me buying this many times again!
