Description
GSM blends out of Australia are increasingly becoming synonymous with quality and consistency. True to style it is predominantly Grenache giving the generous plushness that makes people love Australian wine so much. All three grapes (Grenache, shiraz and Mataro) work in perfect harmony, the structure of the Shiraz is perfectly married together with the slight spicy character and gentle fruits from the Grenache, and the savoury edge and rustic nature of Mourvedre (or as Australians call it, Mataro). A superbly well-rounded and balanced wine, offering serious bang for your buck and definitely not a wine to overlook.
Smells
Bright cherries, raspberry jam, chocolate, and hints of floral notes dance around the glass.
Tastes
The bright red fruits are extremely explosive upfront, then calming to allow the savoury toasty characters to shine. There is a firm tannin grip, and somehow the wine manages to come across as bright and charming, yet brooding, serious and complex at the same time. This is a great wine that will cellar well for 5-8 years. Decant if you need to drink it, ideal with roasted red meats. Recommended serving temperature is 15-17 degrees.
