Description

BREAKING NEWS - this sub $40 Craggy Range 2024 Martinborough Pinot Noir was one of 3 Pinot Noirs Globally (the other two Premier & Grand Cru French Burgundy) to achieve the ultimate ‘Best in Show + Platinum + 97/100’ at Decanter World Wine Awards - DWWA (World’s Equal Toughest Wine Show with 245 Judges) making the Top 50 Wines of the World from 18,000+ reviewed. Crafted from select parcels grown on the renowned ancient stony soils of the Martinborough Terraces and surrounding subregions, this Pinot Noir is a true expression of its terroir. Hand-picked grapes undergo wild fermentation with native vineyard yeasts, enhancing complexity and sense of place. The wine is then matured in French oak for 11 months, adding subtle structure and depth. This exciting and seductive Pinot offers vibrant, approachable flavours while retaining the finesse and elegance Martinborough is renowned for. DWWA Judges ‘Best in Show + Platinum + 97/100 Review - “Of the six Pinot Noirs from New Zealand to feature in our Top 50 selections since 2018, this is the third to come from Wairarapa’s Martinborough (the other three, unsurprisingly, have been Central Otago wines). This is an uncompromisingly dark wine that plays to New Zealand’s strengths in terms of purity and vivacity of fruit: raspberry, cherry and plum come streaming from the glass, and the fine meshing of fruit and oak in this wine adds to its lustre and appeal. In the mouth, the wine is both long and broad but not in any way clumsy, and the fruit flavours (raspberry to the fore again) are hypnotic. Svelte tannins are barely palpable, so there’s no textural barrier to entry.” Immediately delicious with strong medium term aging potential… enjoy now through 2032!

Smells

A plethora of bright red berry, cherry & plum fruits with hints of dried lavender lead the bouquet, layered with baking spice notes.

Tastes

An exciting and vibrant palate. A seductive, red-fruited core wrapped in velvet tannin with undeniable depth of flavour. A pretty, charming, ethereal Pinot offering a very approachable drinking now… but will develop and drink beautifully through 2032. Serve with mushroom dishes or roast lamb or beef. The recommended serving temperature is 13-15 degrees.
