Description
Sir George, the visionary behind Villa Maria, is soaring high again with his new venture, Čuvar. This project pays homage to Croatian pioneers and guardians of New Zealand's wine industry. Čuvar, meaning "guardian" in Croatian, reflects their commitment to tradition and quality. Their Single Vineyard wines and The Iris Collection, symbolized by Croatia's national flower, the Iris, celebrate heritage, hope, courage, and valour. Dedicated to crafting great wine, protecting the planet, and enjoying the process, Sir George's legacy continues to thrive. This Pinot Noir is from their Ballochdale Vineyard, high in the Awatere Valley, Marlborough. This is the first wine Sir George made from this vineyard he acquired in 2023. The vineyard sits at 300m high and is one of the highest and most southerly vineyards in the Awatere Valley, Marlborough.
Smells
the bouquet oozes red berry fruit aromas, raspberries, strawberries, cranberries, all dusted with a herbal spice.
Tastes
plush and fruity, an uncomplicated wine, and a Pinot for all, a crowd pleaser for sure, almost Central like in structure with generous fruit, soft tannins, yet with a gentle acid profile. Good drinking now through 2025, a great match with mushroom risotto, in fact all things mushroom, pasta and/or gamey meats. The recommended serving temperature is 13-15 degrees.
We taste, rate & guarantee every wine we sell.
