Description
The Aratoro Pinot Noir 2021 is the peak of Isabel Estate’s Pinot Noir production. Crafted from clones 777, 5 and Abel, it is a selection of the best fruit handpicked off two of their Wairau Valley blocks. The grapes were fermented separately in 4-tonne open-top tanks, with 80% destemmed and 20% whole bunch. After a 3-day cold soak, natural fermentation peaked at 30°C over 10 days, followed by 6 days on skins. The wine was then pressed into 30% new and seasoned French oak, aged on fine lees for 11 months with natural malolactic fermentation, and bottled in spring after cellaring underground.
Nose: The bouquet is an elegant fusion of juicy dark berry fruit, perfumed violets, and cocoa leading into subtle notes of anise, coca and dried herbs.
Palate: The wine is concentrated and structured, with layers of black cherry, boysenberry, spice and dried herbs. Silky yet firm tannins provide length and poise, complemented by integrated oak nuances of vanilla and mocha. A long, memorable finish that balances fruit purity with complexity, promising further development with age. Enjoy now or through to 2030+ with game dishes or eye fillet.
