Description
Unprecedented NZ Pinot Noir Champion Trophy Successes. With the 2020/2021/2022/2023 vintages winning 14 Champion Trophies + Decanter World Wine Awards Best in Show + 13 Gold Medals + 95-96-96-96-96-96-97/100 ratings. This consecutive 4-vintage success is unprecedented in NZ, possibly internationally. Compelling results indeed! This new 2024 is again impressive, gorgeous in fact, every bit as good as the 2020, 2021, 2022 + 2023 Champions we feel, perhaps a touch more muscular. It was not ready in time for the 2024 Decanter World Wine Awards and International Wine Challenge in London… the World’s two toughest shows. It will be present in 2026, but this vintage will be long gone. In the interim it is chalking up Gold Medals & ratings from NZ Wine Shows & critics. Including this latest Gold from NZ International Wine Show… where it is in line for the Champion Trophy awards late October. The Southern Tor style is consistently rich, mouth filling, textural, with very smooth tannins and delicious, sweet/savoury contrast. The final clue to Southern Tor’s Global success is its making by Central Otago “World Champion” Pinot Noir winemaker “Matt Connell”. This is World Class Kiwi Pinot that would sell for several times its price was it from Burgundy. Utterly delicious in its youth... this stunning 2024 vintage release will age comfortably for 10-years and is a fabulous Pinot cellar bargain!
Smells
Haunting aromas of dark berry and fresh dark cherry with subtle raspberry. Floral and baking spice notes emerge from under the heady fruit.
Tastes
Instantly luscious and textural... a wave of black berry, plum and cherry layered with subtle sweet baking spices totally wow your taste buds. A subtle thread of toasty oak with hints of black forest Gateau and savoury game build charm and momentum as it culminates in a powerful, but elegantly dry finish.
