Description
Smith & Sheth can no longer be described as the new kids on the block, but the consistently high quality and attention to detail, have certainly held true, as evident in their wines over the last few years. This 2022 Central Otago Pinot Noir is fruit predominantly from Lowburn subregion, originally planted in 2000 on a gentle, north facing slope. A mix of clones and new plantings of high-density Pinot Noir planted at 3,000 - 9,000 vines/ ha, on the lower terraces planted in 2018-2020. Biogro certified. Harvested: 2nd - 15th April 2022, hand-sorted and gently destemmed (10% whole bunch), uninoculated ferment. Aged 12 months in barrel followed by 9 months in concrete and wooden cuves. Unfined.
Smells
Beautiful, bold aromas of Central Otago, black plum, cherry and thyme and a hint of toasted grain.
Tastes
Bright, energetic entry, then blueberry, cream and hints of fruit cake. Supple, smooth with silky tannins that wrap around your cheeks and tongue, titillating and memorising the senses, leading into a long, precise finish. Completely moreish, drinking well now through 2030+ and will pair with mushroom dishes, pasta and game meats. The recommended serving temperature is 13-15 degrees.
