Description

Hawke’s Bay isn’t renowned for Pinot; however, Te Mata is changing that. Pioneers of the region, pioneers of research and development and pioneers of focus and dedication to making the best wines they can. And their 2022 Alma is standing out, above the crowd. Meticulously crafted, Te Mata has gone to great lengths to ensure their fifth Alma Pinot Noir is one of the finest expressions of the grape you could find. Perhaps slightly lighter than the 2021, expressing the cooler 2022 vintage, it is however easy to see the thought, effort and skill that have been poured into this wine. It has dark, dense fruit yet is a polished new entry into the world of Fine Wine.

Smells

Intense notes of cherries, and violets, morphing into blackberries, and mulberries, with hints of sandalwood, five spice, and cinnamon revealing themselves as the wine airs.

Tastes

A smooth, fresh and lively Pinot that shows all the virtues of this grape variety. A flavoursome mouthful with abundant notes of cherries, plums, cedar, wood, and spice combines together with amass of finely textured tannins and perfect acidity. Perfectly balanced, it is youthful and vibrant and will benefit from at least 4-5 years in the cellar. Drink from 2025 – 2027, with roasted red meats, duck, pork or lamb
