Description

This stunning 2024 is an impressive back-to-back vintage to the 2023 ‘Mysterious Diggings’ that rated a mind numbing 98/100 by Top 3 Global critic James Suckling. We all know what happened next... the entire production sold out in a couple of weeks to huge global & domestic demand! ‘Mysterious Diggings’ label by Central Otago’s Terra Sancta pays homage to an early map of the region which defined a small parcel of land as having ‘Mysterious Diggings’. The map was probably referring to gold that was mined in the area at the time, but Terra Sancta found their own gold… with Pinot Noir. The vineyard was planted in 1999 with a complex basket of six different fruit clones... and at 300 metres above sea level, is one of the highest altitude vineyards in Bannockburn, Central Otago. 2024 vintage enjoyed perfect slow ripening conditions yielding vibrantly flavoured fruit. Handpicked with minimal intervention and organic winemaking has resulted in a vibrant, luscious Pinot Noir with real character. Made with 100% wild fermentation, aging in seasoned French oak barrels provides additional texture and inviting spice on the finish. Superior structure, depth of flavour and layered complexity… this 2024 Mysterious Diggings exudes mysteriously good quality well above its asking price. Enjoy now or 3-5 years from vintage. Awarded Best Value Pinot Noir from Michael Cooper… the awards will come.

Smells

A basket of bright fruit aromas including sweet strawberry, cherry and plum with subtle dried thyme, liquorice and savoury notes.

Tastes

Vibrantly fruited with a delicious wave of red/black berry, cherry and fleshy plum fruits. The oak inspired texture adds a perfect contrast to the lusciousness and the mineral freshness draws out the subtle spice, thyme, liquorice and savoury tinged finish. Delicious drinking already but will evolve further complexity through 2027/2023. Should match perfectly with Peking Duck and other roasted/BBQed red meats. The recommended serving temperature is 13-15 degrees.
