95/100 Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate - Utterly divine & captivating Spanish Red crafted by the legendary Flying Scotsman, Norrell Robertson Master of Wine. Over 20-years ago, Norrell set about restoring the ancient vines of Calatayud in Spain’s arid heartland. Such a challenging environment where the vines are dry grown (no water for irrigation – and only 200ml of rain annually) in a sun baked, hot, dry climate… forcing their roots to descend 20+ metres deep into the sub soils in search of whatever moisture they can find. The yields from these Ancient Bush-Vines are miniscule, resulting in concentration of pure fruits with sublime tannin/acid harmony. The fruit for El Escoces Volante Dos Dedos de Frente Syrah Viognier comes off a tiny plot of less than a hectare, planted on pudding stones. The tiny harvest spends 48-hours at 1 - 2 degrees in a cool room prior to fermentation with punch downs and foot stomping. A small amount of Viognier is added for perfume, vibrancy & colour a la the legendary Northern Rhone Cote Roties. Intensely flavoured ripe fruit with texture & tannin resembling the finest Barolo & Burgundy reds… only this 95/100 Parker rated Red is a tiny fraction of their prices. You need to try this ancient vine Spanish Red where you’ll find luxury & elegance meeting head on. It will age for 20+ years with ease if well stored. It is a hedonistic red you should prepare a special meal to accompany.
