Description
The big brother of the Stonybroke, showing greater complexity, fruit weight, power and concentration, yet the family resemblance shines through strongly with a similar complex, earthy, leathery bouquet that intrigues and delights. A wonderful style that is unique to the Hunter Valley and atypical to other Aussy regions producing Shiraz, but all the more reason to be put on a pedestal and admired.
Smells
savoury, earthy aromas of cedar, leather, bramble, wild red berries, rotting brown leaves, hints of mint and vanilla undertones.
Tastes
generous fruit floods the tastes buds with cedar, cinnamon and exotic spice flavours giving way to leather, chocolate and coffee with hints of fresh tobacco leaves. Fine grain tannins coat the cheeks with a dusty, gravelling texture leading to a fine acid thread drawing out the palate. Like its little brother, it’s hard to resist drinking, but 5 years in the cellar will see greater complexity and integration. Perfect with roast lamb.
