Description
Orphan Bank stands as a powerful testament to Langmeil’s dedication to preserving the Barossa’s precious old vines. Ten rows of Shiraz, originally planted before 1860, were rescued from destruction and given a new lease on life beside the historic Langmeil vineyard on the banks of the North Para River. Once considered “orphans,” these venerable vines now thrive in their new home—bringing with them a sense of history, heritage, and soul. The result is a wine of remarkable character and depth. Nostalgic yet vibrant, this is truly one to seek out and savour.
Smells
A rich bouquet of red and blue fruits, herbs, and cedar, entwine with hints of sage, chocolate and savoury notes.
Tastes
Rich and juicy raspberry and Satsuma plum fill the mouth, with allspice sweetness adding to the mouthfeel. The fruit is well balanced with hints of briary spice and textural, fine-grained tannins on the lengthy finish. Cellaring: 2026– 2033 and even longer. Serve with your favourite stews or red meats. For optimal drinking pleasure serve at 16-18 degrees.
