Obsidian are one of Waiheke’s prestige producers with vines planted in Onetangi, the area that many consider as the Island's Grand Cru. 2022 was a balmy vintage with ideal growing conditions especially for ripening Syrah to perfection, resulting in this stunning wine with concentration, power, and finesse, rather than the blockbusters that often come to mind when thinking of Waiheke reds.
Smells
Vibrant juicy aromas of dark plum, blackberry, and baking spices atop a hint of black pepper, finishing with an earthy, herbal complexing vein.
Tastes
A deliciously structured Syrah with tons of red and dark berry fruits with a plush mid-palate that manages to envelop the taste buds in a creamy tide of black cherries, mocha, fresh raspberries dipped in Belgian chocolate, and touches of a toasty complexity… This is a seriously good Syrah that will evolve for the next 5-7 years… Enjoy!
