This is Obsidian’s pinnacle Syrah crafted with handpicked fruit off the Estates Older Vines, from the dream-like 2020 vintage. The grapes were picked at optimal ripeness, the fruit destemmed and fermented in open top tanks with 10% whole bunches complexing the ferment and daily hand plunging. After a period of post fermentation maceration, the wine was transferred to fine French barriques (20% new) and underwent malolactic fermentation. After a few months in barrel it was racked, clarified and returned to barrel to complete aging. No expense spared in the making of this impressive Flagship Obsidian Reserve Syrah. This is an opulent, powerful, Rhone Hermitage like Syrah with a silky elegance about it that will reward cellaring through 2035+ if well stored… now 5-years old it is beginning to reveal its exciting potential.

Vibrant aromas of blackberry, plum and raspberry with hints of baking spice, toasty oak and complex savoury notes.

Very Powerful & Silky Smooth… it elegantly transitions the palate unravelling with incredible length. An abundance of bright red and black berries with raspberry pie, nutmeg, savoury spice and subtle pepper complexities adding layers. Cocoa powder like tannins and bright acidity provide a perfect platform for the concentrated palate… and the oak inspired texture adds to its mouth filling charm. Delicious at 5-years… it won’t reach its peak drinking until 2029 through 2035.
