Description

Depressed International & Domestic wine sales have brought about this Unmissable $13.99 CLEARANCE of Sacred Hill Reserve 2022 Gimblett Gravel’s Syrah. The Reserve is normally a blend of Sacred Hill’s inland and GG vineyards. In 2022 the Reserve was crafted with 100% fruit off the legendary ‘Deerstalkers’ Gimblett Gravel’s Vineyard. The complexity, concentration, ripeness and varietal integrity of this ‘Reserve’ speaks to the legendary quality and characteristics of the Deerstalkers vineyard! From the famed Gimblett Gravels, this Syrah reflects both the concentration of the stony soils and the elegance that defines Hawke’s Bay’s cool-climate style. Crafted with restraint and precision, it balances generosity of fruit with poise and savoury complexity. Delicious now and through 2027+. You cannot normally drink legendary ‘Single Vineyard’ Syrah (or any red of such quality) at $13.99… this is several classes above your $13.99 supermarket reds.

Smells

An alluring bouquet of violets, black cherry, and boysenberry, layered with hints of white pepper, clove, and smoked meat.

Tastes

The palate is silky yet structured, with a core of ripe dark berry fruit wrapped in fine, cocoa powder like tannins. Bright acidity provides lift, while nuances of spice, olive tapenade, and charcuterie weave through a long, mineral-edged finish. Elegant and expressive, it shows both power and finesse, a hallmark of superior Gimblett Gravels Syrah. Enjoy now through 2027 with red meats and hard cheese.

I originally purchased this wine because it’s from Hawke’s Bay — a region I trust for producing outstanding Syrah — and it lived up to regional expectations. A beautifully crafted wine that I would highly recommend for the everyday price, and one I’ll be purchasing again.

This is a serious bottle of wine – deep vibrant colour, full on the nose and packing deep complex flavours with a long finish. Versatile with food and very drinkable at 13. Fantastic value at $13.99 – not to be missed!

I was blown away by this Syrah. First whiff and i was sold. Excellent - and at such a good price.

A very nice wine that will be even greater value if it can be resisted for a couple more years!

I need to drink a few more bottles of this wine before I get the true taste of it. It's not like a typical bold Aussie shiraz. It is much lighter and I struggled to place the flavour, but it tastes like a pinot noir/merlot. I'm sure I'll nail it in time!

20th October 2025 | Colin De Freyne

Deep ruby, rich dark plum & spice, subtle liquorice & pepper, rounded tannins, dry & lingering.

20th October 2025 | Bruce Shaw

Superb nose and taste of classic Syrah at unbelievable price.

19th October 2025 | JOHN RUTHERFORD HAWTHORNE

Very good wine at a great price. Spicy and peppery and very approachable now, but have put a couple down to enjoy in a year or tot. Top deal

This wine was better than we expected. Full bodied and smooth.

19th October 2025 | Ngaire Grainger

Syrah. I believe this grape has a brilliant future in Hawkes Bay. This example was peppery and mouth filling. Yum. Great value for money.

18th October 2025 | Owen and Kathy Young

A really nice wine, even better with the price it’s at. Has a good backbone unlike similarly priced wines, recommended.

At our Wine Club meeting in September, we included the 2022 Sacred Hill Gimblett Gravels Reserve Syrah as one of seven reds in a blind tasting. Also in the lineup there was an Obsidian and a Craggy Range wine; the Sacred Hill came in second against wines ranging in price up to $175! Need I say more?? Our small but experienced Wine Club (9 members) has been meeting monthly for 35 years and each one of us was astounded at the value for money in the Sacred Hill wine.

Rather thin this wine I thought, but with the good kiwi syrah characteristics. Represents very good value and for me is a great little quaffer.

18th October 2025 | Greg Goodall

Delicious, great value. What more do you want?!

18th October 2025 | Robert Bryce

A nice drop but some more time will further smooth out the flavours.

18th October 2025 | Michele Hodges

Honestly, just buy this wine. 5 glasses rating from me because you won’t get a better Syrah for the price.

18th October 2025 | Greg McMaster

Excellent value at the clearance special price. Lovely smooth New Zealand red. Highly recommended.

18th October 2025 | Kevin Hill

I was a little sceptical of this $14 bottle of wine but was very pleased to be proven wrong, it’s a great quaffing wine and punch’s well above it’s price point
