Description

Another striking vintage from Australia’s masters of cooler climate Shiraz/Syrah. Shaw + Smith play liberally with whole-bunch inclusion in the ferment a la the best of Rhone Hermitage. It makes for a thrillingly complex and alluring bouquet of dried herbs, spices, raspberry, and ripe cherry. It's so drinkable. That's the nub of it. Handcrafted and tended at every stage from their iconic soils to your glass... the tiny production numbering in the hundreds of cases makes this a rarity sought after by collectors. We nabbed the lion's share of NZ's allocation and have come up trumps with a spectacular price. Complex and elegant it will give you inestimable pleasure over 10-20 years if well stored.

Smells

Very complex aromas of dried herbs, spices, and hazelnut (hallmarks of quality whole bunch work) with underlying cedar, red earth, black cherry, truffle and plum.

Tastes

Amazingly subtle and silky on the palate but do not be fooled, it graduates impressively to a long and unerring finish. Luscious red and black cherry with blackberry and truffle... the weight and elegance are more like top Grand Cru Burgundy than your typical Australian Shiraz. Subtle dried herbs, spices, savoury, and earthy complexities add to the seduction of this impressive Syrah-like Shiraz. Expect this wine to deliver massively in the cellar and be a truly magnificent when revisited from 2030 onwards. The recommended serving temperature is 15-17 degrees.
