Description
The Homage legend continues... Sourced from the Gimblett Gravels (though not labelled as such), Homage is about the most pure, perfect expression winemakers Warren Gibson can coax from their low-yielding vineyards. In 2019, they had outstanding growing conditions for Syrah, the wine described by Warren Gibson as being “a little plusher” than previous releases. Traditional winemaking methods including whole cluster fermentation and foot stomping of the grapes, the wine spending an average of 25 days on skins. A beautifully fragrant and structured wine, it is drinking beautifully now, but could still use some time in the decanter just to open it up a little more. The upper limits of this wine’s drinking window should easily exceed 20 years if well stored.
Smells
An incredibly fragrant and nuanced bouquet… spicy, leathery, smoky, floral with the full spectrum of black, red and blue fruit perfumes.
Tastes
Striking concentration and richness of fruit, with great tannin structure, yet it’s seamless and envelopes layers of blue, black and red fruit as well as spicy, dried herb notes which freshen, complex and tantalise. Notes of dark chocolate and espresso round out the long, velvety finish, this wine is undoubtedly built to cellar. A truly great Homage, enjoy this aristocratic wine with great food and great company until 2045… possible beyond!
