Description
Emma Marris Chardonnay 2023 – IWC Trophy Winner (97pts). The future of Marlborough winemaking is in good hands with Emma Marris, daughter of Brent Marris (Wither Hills) and third-generation member of one of the region’s pioneering wine families. After completing her studies at the University of Adelaide, Emma returned home to take the reins at Marisco Vineyards—producers of The Ned, Leefield Station, and the King’s Series. But this small-batch Chardonnay is something special: her personal project, where she explores new techniques and showcases the very best of Leefield Station fruit. Sourced from selected Chardonnay clones in the Waihopai Valley, the fruit was hand-harvested and whole bunch pressed before being fermented in carefully chosen French oak on full solids, delivering depth, texture, and complexity. The result? A show-stopping wine that’s already won hearts and palates—IWC 2025 Marlborough Chardonnay Trophy Winner (97pts) and 94 points from Cameron Douglas MS. Elegant yet richly layered, this is a Chardonnay of both finesse and power. With acclaim like this, it won’t stay on the shelves for long—grab a bottle (or two) while you can.
Smells
a perfumed delight with a bouquet reminiscent of wildflowers and sea spray, subtle notes of peach, oyster shell giving way to almond meal and toast.
Tastes
A compact wine with pure fruit that’s balanced by tightly grained French oak; a seamless wine with tremendous length of palate. A wine that needs a year or two to allow integration of fruit and oak and let the true wine within to reveal itself. It will partner well with white meats, summer salads or pasta. The recommended serving temperature is 10-13 degrees.
