Description

A 44-year-old Marlborough winery is CLEARING a Cancelled Export of Premium Estate Grown & Made Chardonnay at a spectacular $14.99 bottle. From three sites deep in the centre of the Wairau Valley, the grapes were handpicked, before spontaneous ‘Wild Yeast’ Barrel Fermentation in 500L French Oak puncheons… a judicious 15% NEW. All barrels went through malolatic fermentation… the Chardonnay continued to age for 10-months in oak. This is artfully & expensively made Premium Estate Chardonnay! From the MAGNIFICENT 2024 vintage… it’s perfect drinking over the next 12 months but will cellar nicely for 4-8 years. CLEARING under our legendary ‘Hidden Label’ program… it will arrive at your door wearing an exclusive ‘Export Label’ – the iconic Winery’s name can be found on the back label for all to see. We’re contracted not to reveal the actual Chardonnay in the bottle… the winemaking specifications tell you all about its quality! It’s Premium Estate Chardonnay that could be served anywhere, anytime in any company! It is CLEARING Hidden Label to protect the ‘Export Label’ going forward, plus the iconic 44-year-old winery, from the negative brand impact arising out of deep cut discounting!

Smells

Beautifully engaging aromas of ripe nectarine, pink grapefruit and lemon meringue pie, with additional notes of toasted brioche, hazelnut and butterscotch.

Tastes

The palate is laden with stonefruit & ripe citrus, plus delicious biscuity & brioche lees characters emerging mid palate before finishing with a seductive hint of butterscotch. A creamy texture and pure thread of acidity sustain the lengthy, elegant finish. Superb Chardonnay with layers of complexity that will convert even the staunchest ABC proponents! You could cellar for 4-8 years and reap the rewards… you could also enjoy it now with creamy pasta, pork, seafood and poultry dishes. You could also simply indulge pre and post dinner… it’s utterly delicious by itself! Recommended serving temperature is 10-13 degrees.

We taste, rate & guarantee every wine we sell.

At the time of review I can only give this 3 stars...mainly due to its youthfullness. However, it is well made and offers great value for money. In another year or 3 it will be considerably better. Recommended.

Subtle, hints of pear tart, smooth in the mouth and a long finish

Jeff the wine is a very good and easy Chardonnay to drink. It is of a quality that is a step above other more presentable wines. The taste is smooth and flavoursome without being overpowering. I love my buttery and heavier Chardonnay and this wine did not disappoint. Thank you.

This is an extraordinary chardonnay for under $15! Nicely oaked and drinking fabulously now!

14th July 2025 | Lisa Stone

Value for money this is exceptional drinking for the chardonnay daily reward! A nice surprise.

14th July 2025 | Richard Rowley

loved the mix of creamy tropical fruits & classy minerality and found this better than the Church Rd McDonald Series Chardy so loved in London... but my wife liked neither... so i was wrong ;-)

14th July 2025 | steve barkle

Pleasantly surprised how good this is for the money.

14th July 2025 | Nick Gordon

Very easy drinking and not too much Oak which I enjoy - Good value

14th July 2025 | John Roes

A great buy at the price

14th July 2025 | Lars Bojsen-Moller

This wine surprised me. Not recognising the label so was dubious but I really enjoyed it. In fact I ordered some more!

13th July 2025 | Martin Leonard

This is a yummy full flavored yet light and crisp Chardonnay. Great to be able to drink such a quality wine at $15 a bottle!

13th July 2025 | Eric Jack

Gorgeously worked. Great fruit and winemaking to match. Incredible value. Thanks, Mike

13th July 2025 | Mike Parker

Underwhelming. Didn't meet your reviews.

I opened it, had a very small glass and thought, WAAAAAAY to young. I poured it into a carafe for half a day and pored it back into the bottle. The following evening it was a completely different wine. The flavour profiles the winery mentions are all there. Probably the best value chardonnay I've had for a few years. Open it the day before or leave it for at least a couple of years.

13th July 2025 | Vern Hines

Definite stone fruit & ripe citrus notes. Some minerality. Dry and slightly short finish. Not really up to a 95 rating but a pleasant wine from a beautiful part of the country. At $14.99 I think it represents pretty good value and I'll probably buy some more.

Great value chardy at under $15. Loved the acidity and nicely concentrated flavours

13th July 2025 | Nick W

Sometimes we’re skeptical about Chardonnays from this ‘hood, but wowsers, this thing for 15 bucks a bottle is an absolute belter, it evaporates very very quickly! Get it.

Chardonnay for non Chardonnay drinkers? It's very easy to drink and good value for money.

13th July 2025 | Lisa

Thoroughly enjoyed this chardonnay. Looking forward to further enjoyment

13th July 2025 | David

A good well balanced wine. Excellent value at this price

13th July 2025 | Garry Forward

Thought it was delicious.

13th July 2025 | Wendy Yortt

Beautifully refined chardonnay. Exceptional value.

13th July 2025 | Brian Sexton

An exceptional chardonnay with finesse. It's very smooth on the palate, dry but not astringent. Pale colour, hints of oak which are not overpowering. I had a Cherubino chardonnay which cost $55 the following night but it wasn't as refined as this one. Very exceptional wine at this price.

13th July 2025 | Heather

Fruity, vanilla ,rounded some oak , long on the palette. Took a punt, won BIG time..

13th July 2025 | Chris Wilks

An outstanding example of Marlborough Chardonnay with nicely balanced complexity at a great price!

13th July 2025 | Paul

Outstanding value- thanks for recommending FWD , smooth, great tasting chardy as good as much more expensive wine

13th July 2025 | Gaylene Douglas

With its subtle mealy notes and pleasantly lingering finish, this wine represents excellent value for money.

13th July 2025 | Greg Goodall

Very smooth, easy drinking chardonnay. Great with fish and chicken dishes. Excellent buy

13th July 2025 | Vanessa Heath

Disappointed. Didn't match the rave review. Certainly wouldn't score 95. Closer to 85.
