Description
We’re always excited when a NEW vintage of Isabel Estate Old Vine Chardonnay arrives on our Fine Wine Delivery tasting table… it’s a paper scissors rock thing, to see who takes the bottle home after the tasting. Likewise, FWD premium Chardonnay customers cannot get enough of Isabel Estate… and they’ll love this fabulous NEW 2023 rated 95/100 by our Tasting Panel! Once family-owned… Isabel Estate were bought by Endeavour Drinks, owners of Dan Murphys & BWS liquor retail in Australia, of whom Woolworths (WWA) Australia were a major shareholder. Consequently, Isabel Estate wines became exclusive in NZ to Countdown stores, their quality lost in the mire of supermarket retailing. WWA recently sold their majority stake to existing Endeavour shareholders. Endeavour subsequently appointed an independent NZ distributor, these magnificent old-vine Isabel Estate wines are once again available to Fine Wine Delivery customers after a long hiatus. It gives us great pleasure to offer this gorgeous NEW Champion Trophy + Triple Gold Medal 2023 Isabel Estate Chardonnay, which our tasting panel all described as having “Serious WOW Factor”.
Smells
A heady perfume of grapefruit, white peach, gunflint, subtle woodsmoke, toasted sourdough, with oaky spice nuances in the background.
Tastes
Classically structured like fine White Burgundy, a racy core of white peach and pink grapefruit with just the right amount of flesh and a luscious mineral thread. The chalky, citrus, salivating oyster shell, and smoky flavours are energetic and invigorating. One sip and there is no putting the glass down, it is superb and for the price, an absolute bargain. Serve with deep sea fish, roast chicken or pork belly. For optimal drinking pleasure serve between 10-13 degrees.
We taste, rate & guarantee every wine we sell.
