Description
Striking successor to the 2022 Isabel Estate Wild Barrique Chardonnay recently crowned World Champion Chardonnay & World Champion Wine in London. Our Tasting Panel gave this 2023 an impressive 96/100. The annual show circuit is still some way off… it could possibly sell out before it crosses the judges’ tables? Made from Mendoza Clone 30+ year old vines… and 100% wild fermented in a mix of puncheons and barriques, it spends a further year in barrel undergoing malolactic fermentation and extended time on lees. A project winemaker Jeremy McKenzie has been working on for several years, selecting small parcels of the finest estate fruit each year to go into this magnificent Chardonnay. Superb now… but no rush to drink, you can reap the rewards through 2029-2032+.
Smells
Enticing aromas of white peach, green apple, citrus, roasted hazelnuts, grapefruit, subtle smoke & flint, toasty oak and a creamy brioche undercurrent.
Tastes
Amazing combination of power, balance and charm, the rich layers of fruit, oak and flinty complexities are superbly integrated. A powerful, intriguing Chardonnay, a dead ringer for Cru White Burgundy. Serve with roast pork & chicken, lighter red meats and duck. For optimal drinking pleasure serve between 10-13 degrees.
We taste, rate & guarantee every wine we sell.
