Clone 15 Chardonnay from the Kumeu vineyard of locals Tim & Angela Coddington. The Kumeu River Coddington is the most Meursault of any Chardonnay I have tasted in NZ. The aromas and palate structure easily confused for a top Premier Cru from Meursault. This wine takes New Zealand Chardonnay to a whole new level and needs to be applauded. Grapefruit, burnt match, wet stones, red apples, peach, subtle fresh butter plus brown spice… aromatic seduction!
Tastes
Rounded and rich it beguiles with layers of citrus & stone fruits, nutty, buttery subtilties, spice and flinty edges… it is the more luxuriant of Kumeu River’s single vineyard expressions. A delicious kiss of French oak, biscuity charm, creamy mouthfeel with fresh mineral lift maintaining its persistence. A very complete wine.
