Description
If you’re a lover of fine French White Burgundy… you’re almost certain to connect with this hedonistic Grand Cru NZ Chardonnay. Neudorf Home Block Moutere has competed with and beaten Crand Cru White Burgundy (often many times it’s price) in blind tastings by leading global critics. This divine 2023 has 3 Leading Wine Critics in a 96/100 chorus. Handpicked from the oldest vines on their Home Block, this Neudorf Moutere Chardonnay has a complexity of bouquet that’s hard to put into words. You just want to smell it, but when you do give in and take a sip, you are confronted with a wine of both incredible beauty and unfathomable depth. A full malolactic conversion contributes only weight rather than buttery characters, the acidity remaining a real feature driving a long, long finish.
Smells
Thoroughly Burgundian, calling to mind the great Chevalier-Montrachet, with delicious notes of cashew, nougat, citrus and wild ferment, the fruit very ripe and generous with nectarine, peach and perhaps fig, a hint of high-toned florals, perhaps magnolia. You could sniff this for hours and find more every few minutes.
Tastes
An instant of luxurious richness is quickly consumed by an insistent acid line (a hallmark of this legendary wine). The back of the palate fattens out with creamy caramel and biscuit sensations, the finish lingering long and complex, with a pleasant peach-skin grip. When one considers how this wine usually takes 4-5 years to show its best, a little smile comes across your face. Enjoy this supremely elegant wine from 2026 through 2030+, depending on how developed you like your Chardonnay.
