Description
Tony Bish is NZ's only Chardonnay exclusive producer. He is a master of the variety and where his true passion shines and this Heartwood is testament to that. He is as passionate about the terroir of the oak for the barrels he uses as he is about the terroir of his vineyards. Heartwood is named for the 'heart-wood' from the centre of the 140-year old French oak trees (Quercus Robur) that make the premium, tight-grain staves used for his top-end barrels. Crafted from hand-picked Mendoza clone Chardonnay, it is 100% barrel fermented, with 25% in new oak. The marriage of flavours from the concentrated and pure fruit with the refined hazelnut and fine barrel characters is perfection.
Smell: Toasted hazelnuts, ripe peaches and vanilla. Spice notes coming from the oak.
Tastes: Yellow peaches and grapefruit with warm spice notes. The oak is perfectly in balances and provides a fine texture while the acidity leaves the palate crisp. Drink now, or until 2030+, with a ripe triple cream brie. The recommended serving temperature is 10-13 degrees.
