Description

Vasse Felix Heytesbury Chardonnay 2023, Elegance Refined. The Heytesbury Chardonnay is not just a wine, it's Vasse Felix's masterclass in elegance, restraint, and site expression. As the pinnacle of their Icon range, it’s crafted from the most distinctive vineyard plots, showcasing the true personality of Margaret River Chardonnay. The 2023 vintage delivered a long, slow ripening season, ideal for achieving perfect balance between flavour intensity, acidity, and structure. Fruit was hand-harvested, whole bunch pressed, and the unclarified juice sent straight to oak barrels where it began fermentation with only wild vineyard yeasts—a hands-off approach that preserves purity and nuance. Aged for 15 months with nine on lees, and allowed to undergo natural malolactic fermentation, the result is a wine of al dente ripeness, fine acid tension, and incredible composure. Expect layers of citrus blossom, flint, fine oak spice, and that hallmark ‘Heytesbury’ energy and precision. This is modern Chardonnay at its finest intellectually engaging, beautifully textured, and worth cellaring for a few years if you can wait. If not, pour generously and savour slowly.

Smells

Savoury, citrus and stone support the elegant, flinty note of the classic Heytesbury perfume. Delicate hints of coastal herb and green tea sit with a little soft cheese and candle wax.

Tastes

The pure, fine satin polish of this vintage is special, showing serious precision of al dente ripeness. A typically powerful and tightly held acid line holds a soft, full core, showing amazing restraint with incredible balance and a lightly pithy finish. A wine that will benefit from a few years in a temperature-controlled cellar drink from 2027 onwards. The recommended serving temperature is 10-13 degrees.
