Description
Viognier may be tricky to pronounce, but tasting a great one is unforgettable—like a light bulb moment. With this wine, expect a whole chandelier of them. Bursting with classic aromas of ripe apricots and a deliciously rich, oily texture, this is Viognier at its expressive best. Grown in Hawke’s Bay on the Tantallon and Campbells Brook vineyards, the grapes were machine harvested and gently pressed at the Riverview winery. A portion was fermented in barrel to add depth, while the rest was kept in stainless steel to retain freshness. A variety of yeasts were used to build complexity, with maturation split between oak and steel to preserve the purity of the fruit. This is everything you could want from Viognier—vibrant, textured, and beautifully balanced.
Smells
Perfumed aromas of canned apricots, ripe peach, and vanilla spice.
Tastes
The palate displays rich stone fruit, tangerine, and honeysuckle with long lingering aromatic flavours of lavender and apricots. Very soft acid, true to the variety but the firm, piquant Gin & Tonic like finish is striking giving balance and a long satisfying end, making the picture complete. Drinking well now through 2027, enjoy on its own or with roasted white meats. The recommended serving temperature is 10-13 degrees.
