Description

No one in New Zealand crafts wine quite like Hans Herzog. His name on a label isn’t just a mark of quality—it’s a guarantee of precision, purity, and passion. Hans’s approach is uncompromising: low yields, meticulous clonal selection, organic viticulture, and a relentless focus on site expression. The result? Wines that don’t just impress—they inspire. This organic Viognier is a stunning example. Rich and textural yet beautifully poised, it captures the full aromatic charm of the variety—honeysuckle, apricot, and subtle spice—while maintaining elegance and freshness. It’s a serious alternative to top Rhône Condrieu, offering similar depth and finesse, but with a distinct Marlborough identity. A must-try for Viognier lovers and fine wine enthusiasts alike. This is Hans at his best.

Smells

Enticingly rounded aromas of white flowers, apricot, peach, spices, and honey.

Tastes

The weight and texture are impressive and embrace a rich array of stone fruits and spices infused with honey and buoyed by a salty freshness. Toasty oak nuances run strongly throughout, adding to the picture, making it a dead ringer for many a top barrel matured Condrieu. It is perfectly poised between richness and finesse and unlike quite a few Viogniers I would not easily tire of this wine – on the contrary, I would find it quite contemplative. Enjoy with poultry-inspired dishes now through 2030. The recommended serving temperature is 8-10 degrees.
