Description
Hugel Gentil represents over half the company's production and few wineries can produce a wine as characterful and well-priced as this one. This wine revives an ancient Alsace tradition that wines assembled from noble grape varieties were called "Gentil". If you're a Pinot Gris or other aromatic white lover, there's plenty to be going on with... the wine combines the spicy flavour of Gewurztraminer, the body of Pinot Gris, the finesse of Riesling, the grapiness of Muscat and the refreshing character of Pinot Blanc and Sylvaner. Dry, textural, and very refreshing, it is a perfect introduction to Alsace's most famous producer and their 2022 is a showstopper, perhaps their best to date, a must-try.
Smells
Bright blossomy florals, showing rose and jasmine with hints of stone fruit, lemon rind and cinnamon spice.
Tastes
The sheer richness of the wine makes it seem slightly sweeter than its 4 grams of residual sugar, it builds to a crisp, aromatic finish. Very versatile with food, it goes particularly well with sushi, tempura and lightly spiced Asian dishes. Enjoy through to 2028 and the recommended serving temperature is 6-8 degrees.
