Description
A consistently awarded wine since its first release in 1974, and the 2023 vintage celebrates the 50th year of making, an impressive milestone. Wine has been flowing in the Clare Valley since 1851 and is an integral part of the culture. A small area, accounting for less than 1.5% of Australia’s total wine production, it is one of Australia’s most prestigious premium wine regions, most famous for its Riesling and Shiraz. The tiny village of Watervale (population of 246), nestled in South Australia’s Clare Valley, is renowned for the quality of its Riesling. Jim Barry Watervale Riesling is picked from a special part of the Florita vineyard in Watervale. This famous Riesling vineyard usually achieves full ripeness with high natural acid levels.
Smells
Explosive aromas of jasmine and honeysuckle florals intermingle with lifted white pepper and zesty citrus, all leaping from the glass.
Tastes
The palate is spritely and energetic, with generous fruit that frames a firm lime citrus core. Preserved lemon, lime and hints of white peach flesh, flow through the palate and linger well after the wine is gone. A wine of presence and energy, springing you into life and where the crystalline acidity is electrifying. No hurry to drink as will cellar 10 years+. Or if drinking young serve with fresh oysters, a match made in heaven. The recommended serving temperature is 6-8 degrees.
