Description
The winegrowing season delivered loose bunch architecture to the Donaldson family at Pegasus Bay, meaning the grapes were further apart and there was less spread of the botrytis rot they so love to incorporate into their earnest Riesling program. The result is a cleaner, more pure style of Riesling than they often make, which will probably make the wine more broadly appealing, given the same weight and intensity is on display. A wine to drink with glee when young, it ages very well as we have seen many times over the years, its medium level of sweetness developing into a honeyed masterpiece over the course of a decade or more.
Smells
Beautifully pure nose of mandarin, honeycomb, lanolin and jasmine.
Tastes
Unctuous and medium sweet with a searing citrus hit of acid freshness balancing out the palate, the grippy texture provides textural intrigue, finishing pithy and long with hints of lime and mandarin. Great with fresh tuna, it's also very versatile with lightly spiced Asian food. Drink young or enjoy through to 2030 .
