Description
Winemaker Paul Pujol brings a unique perspective to New Zealand Riesling, drawing deep influence from his time spent in Alsace, France. At Prophet’s Rock, his approach is all about patience and precision—long, slow wild fermentations, extensive lees aging in tank, and an uncommon commitment to bottle aging for two full years before release. The result is a wine that defies the typical Kiwi Riesling style. Rather than exuberant upfront aromatics, this wine showcases sublime texture, elegant weight, and a beautifully integrated palate. A touch of residual sugar adds roundness and richness, while the hallmark acidity of Central Otago Riesling brings it all into perfect balance. This is Riesling reimagined—refined, graceful, and built to age. A wine for thinkers, food lovers, and anyone looking to explore beyond the obvious.
Smells
perfumed and aromatic with a gorgeous floral bouquet, powerful and concentrated with, honeycomb, white flowers, lemon and white peach.
Tastes
powerful and very satisfying at first, then a wave of chalky texture, creamy lees and fresh acid dance across the palate, the honeyed tropical fruit and almost caramel notes lingering long on the finish. Full-bodied by Riesling standards, this is reminiscent of the Hugel Grossi Laue from Alsace, a stunning wine and one of the rarest and sought-after white wines in the country. Enjoy now to 2033 and beyond. The recommended serving temperature is 6-8 degrees.
