Description
Sir George Fistonich is like a phoenix rising from the ashes. With impressive credentials and the iconic Villa Maria under his belt, he has earned awards for his service to the industry. Now in his 80s, he is soaring high again with his new venture, Čuvar. Čuvar pays homage to the Croatian wine pioneers and others who shaped New Zealand's wine story. The name Čuvar, pronounced "chu-var," means "guardian" in Croatian, acknowledging those early guardians of the New Zealand wine industry. They have released both Single vineyard wines and The Iris Collection, represented by Croatia's national flower, the Iris which honours the family's heritage and symbolises hope, courage, and valour—traits at the heart of their team, dedicated to making great wine, protecting the planet, and having fun.
