Valli Gibbston Pinot Noir 2023 - $79.99
Ratings - f97 rc98 r96 rr95
No1 NZ Pinot Noir – Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
Though Gibbston is the coolest of the Central Otago sub-regions, Grant’s site is the best in the valley, and his wines always show perfect ripeness and ample generosity. A must for any serious or aspiring Pinot Noir collector!
Smells: Haunting aromas of red and black cherries, wild herbs, French oak and leather, with subtle gamey meats.
Tastes: Very concentrated with black fruits, yet light on its feet, with wild cherry introducing an array of delicate florals and structural tannins. An amalgamation of subtle power and intrigue, with layers of flavour. World Class Central Otago Pinot Noir with 15+ years of age ability.
Valli Bendigo Pinot Noir 2023 - $79.99
Ratings - F95 r95 cd95 rc95 rr94
From the warmest sub-region in Central Otago comes this seriously cellar worthy Pinot Noir from 5-time World Champion winemaker, Grant Taylor, and 2020 GT Winemaker of the year, Jen Parr. Valli Bendigo Pinot Noir is a serious and structured wine with firm, ripe tannins and layers and layers of flavour, a wine that deserves to be put down in a cool, damp place to let the wonders of time finish what Grant Taylor started.
Smells: Attractive aromas of violet florals with thyme, minerals and blueberry, mingling with dark cherry and exotic Eastern spices.
Tastes: Deeply concentrated and silky smooth on the entry, before ripe yet fine tannins take over reminding you this is not a wine for just knocking back after work - this is the very serious end of NZ Pinot Noir and the reason why customer should own a proper temperature-controlled cellar! A wine of delicious potential now, it will become something special indeed after 2027 and through 2035+.
Valli Bannockburn Pinot Noir 2023 - $79.99
Ratings - F97 rc97 cd95 r94 rr94
Dazzling Single Vineyard Pinot from NZ Winemaker of the Year Jen Parr & the Valli Lama himself, Grant Taylor. The 2023 Valli Bannockburn Pinot Noir is a testament that the sum is greater than its parts – not in the form of vineyards/fruit, but in the form of winemaking. The winemaking prowess at Valli consisting of Jen Parr and Grant Taylor resulted in this stunner. Jen brought a wealth of knowledge about the Bannockburn sub-region from her days at Terra Sancta meaning that the recent releases have been far more accessible and balanced in their youths than before she teamed up with Otago legend Grant Taylor. This Valli Bannockburn shows everything that’s great about arguably Central Otago’s most famous sub-region. Accordingly, although very complex, it is delicious in its youth but with potential to age up to 20-years in quality storage. Unmissable, at the pinnacle of Central Otago Pinot Noir.
Smells: Gorgeous spicy aromatics with a herbal current that is sublime on every level, intertwined with wild red berries, crushed thyme, spearmint notes, baking spice and Chinese 5 spice.
Tastes: A wine of elegance, power and charm, with savoury, forest floor, sandalwood and toasty notes layered upon red fruits, cherry stone and notes of red and black liquorice. A silky, supple palate with fine grain tannins adding texture and structure. This is so incredibly enjoyable now but do save a few bottles to enjoy after 2030 and over the next decade when it will really start to sing.
