Kavka is a classic style of polish vodka with big character. Drawing upon the long vodka-making heritage of Poland, the small batch distillery has been producing vodka for over 200 years. They have gone back to production methods popular in the 18th and 19th centuries, where wheat and rye spirits are blended and re-distilled, before very small quantities of plum and apple spirits, aged for a minimum of 50 years in oak, are then added and rested to allow the character to develop. The vodka is then put through a very gentle and non-invasive filtration process that only takes out coarse impurities but allows character and flavour to remain. The result is a fine premium vodka with real character and, unlike many, taste. It is crisp and clean, but with gentle fruitiness, depth of flavour and complexity rarely found in modern day vodkas which makes it excellent in a martini (see below for our Kavka martini recipe)
Nose: fresh, ripe apples, rich dried fruit, hints of honey with underlying layer of rye bread
Palate: Elegant, indulgent mouthfeel. A light richness emerges then intensifies into a lemon freshness with orange marmalade notes, followed by creaminess with gran and rye bread notes with a finale of luscious, rich and dry flavour with hints of apples and prunes.
45ml Kavka Vodka
15ml Dolin Dry Vermouth
Green olive, or strip of lemon zest
1. Freeze martini glass 15 mins before making drink (optional)
2. For a shaken martini: Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add the vodka and vermouth and shake until well chilled. Strain into a martini glass, garnish with olive or lemon peel, and serve.
3. For a stirred martini: Pour the vodka and vermouth into a mixing glass or cocktail shaker filled with ice. Stir vigorously, about 20 seconds, until well chilled. Strain into a martini glass, garnish with olive or lemon peel and serve.
