Description

Noble One is probably one of, if not the most famous dessert/sweet wine of the New World. Made in a Sauternes style from Semillon grapes infected with Noble Rot, also known as botrytis (a fungus that concentrates flavours) giving rich, luscious wines and imparting honey, apricot and beeswax characters. Darren De Bortoli created Noble One at the family winery in 1982, to this day it is still one of the most awarded wines in history. More than three decades after this pioneering Botrytis Semillon took the world by storm, internationally acclaimed Noble One remains the benchmark of Australian ‘Botrytis’ dessert winemaking. For those of you who have never tried this delight, it’s a must and for those of us who have, its time to try this stunning 2020.

Smells

It’s a Sauternes look-a-like aromatically with classic aromas of honey and butter on freshly toasted sourdough, semi-dried apricots, beeswax, vanilla, honeysuckle, cinnamon and spice.

Tastes

There is little that can prepare you for your first sip, that feeling where your senses are overwhelmed with wonder and delight, a magical moment. The palate is lusciously sweet but perfectly balanced by the finely threaded acidity, harmony and heavenly. Those magnificent flavours of butterscotch, apricots and beeswax linger forever and leave you wanting another sip. There is a reason why it is one of the most acclaimed New World dessert wines, because it is so darn good. Traditionally served with oozy, soft cheeses and Foie Gras.
