Description
Chile is a country of two halves, vineyards planted near the ocean of which there are many as Chile has a very long coastline, are cool climate regions due to the cold onshore breeze compared with the more southern inland, hot regions. There is the opportunity for such diversity due to the extreme climatic differences. Lack of water is becoming more of an issue and hence lots of work is being done to dry-farm (no irrigation). This is a country with great potential and one to keep an eye on, offering great value for money wines.
Smells
slightly shy on the nose with dark, brooding fruit that needs some air to encourage its bouquet. Fragrances of blackcurrant, nutmeg, star anise and pastry notes.
Tastes
The palate is potent, voluminous, and well structured, smooth, perfectly rounded tannins give energy and drive with tobacco leaf, chocolate and toasty flavours leading to a salivating finish. One for the cellar for 10 years or more. Perfect with beef or lamb.
