Description

2018 vintage Chateau de la Chapelle shocked judges with a “Best in Show” - “Platinum Trophy” & “97/100” at the prestigious Decanter World Wine Awards (DWWA) 2021. It’s results placing it in the Top 50 wines of the world from 17,000 wines tasted. This 2020 made another big statement with 95/100 & Gold at DWWA + 2 other Gold Medals. 18,244 wines reviewed by Decanter Judges with just 3.72% awarded Gold. The Decanter judges say... “Spicy nose displaying sweet aromas of dark plums, chocolate and attractive hints of floral notes. Warm and deep on the palate, showing a firm tannic structure.” We bought direct ex Chateau exclusively for Fine Wine Delivery customers in NZ… cutting out the middleman and bringing you DWWA 95/100 & Triple Gold Right Bank Bordeaux Red (85% Merlot & 15% Cabernet) at a staggering $24.99. Its mouth filling fruit and smoothness throughout the palate will win over the palates of any Merlot Cabernet lover. You’d be happy paying more for it… but you don’t have to!

Smells

Classic aromas of ripe blackcurrants and black Doris plums underpinned by smoky, cedar and spice notes.

Tastes

Deep blackberry colour, excellent fruit weight and concentration, suggestive of very low yields producing perfectly ripe fruit. Blackcurrant and blackberry flavours feature strongly on the palate supported by dark chocolate, coffee and toasty vanilla. True to Merlot and Cabernet the tannins are chewy yet supple, framing the fruit, leading into a long, deliciously warm satisfying finish. Decant 30-minutes or so before serving and enjoy with beef, lamb, or venison.

Absolutely superb red, brilliant on its own or with food.

Stunning wine and even more remarkable value. Easily one of if not the best red available under $40. Rich, full bodied and supple showing excellent depth and potential for a long life. I have bought this wine consistently since release in our market and am always impressed . Great wine at any price and terrific value

20th February 2024 | Paul Ferris

A smooth red with nice fruit and lovely finish. Lives up to its ratings and really good value.

20th February 2024 | Max Ross

Great fruit and very well-balanced wine that perfectly pairs with a steak.

20th February 2024 | Greig Duncan

A smooth superb (at any price but surprising at this price) right bank Bordeaux. The first taste took me straight back to France.

20th February 2024 | Richard & Clare Fletcher

Great value fuller-bodied Bordeaux that delivers both in potential and finish.

20th February 2024 | Josh L

Very smooth with wonderful fruit and texture- pushes above its price tag.

BlackBerry , Plum, Oak and Spice aromas , moderate acidity with soft Lingering tannins . Good value for the price point

I am very impressed with this wine it has a wonderful soft mouth filling flavoursome texture beautiful almost blueberry note to its nose. The tannins are just enough to remind you of its Bordeaux pedigree, I found I could remember my first taste of it a couple of weeks later. I am fond of wines from this part France and am an occasional drinker of them but they are certainly my favourite easy drinking wines

Very nice, a steal at this price

This wine is definitely excellent value for the money. We decanted before drinking one bottle, and the pleasure is what one would expect from a good Bordeaux.

Lovely Red

19th February 2024 | Annalise Wilson

Not being a massive fan of mid price French reds, i was skeptical that it would be to light in style for my palate, however uncorking (a rare privilege now) and pouring a glass out, the dark hue of big ticket merlot cabernet blends is your first clue to the delightful structure this will hit your mouth with. Sweet yet very easy to drink without food, but if you wanted to match a BBQd lamb backstrap with earthy marsala mushrooms will knock your socks off! Buy it its a welcome difference to our amazing HB reds

19th February 2024 | Paul Ormerod

A solid buy. Quite a bit of fruit for a bx blend of this price and plenty of complexity too.

19th February 2024 | Eric Bryan

Great value for money! Really impressive

19th February 2024 | Tom Pritchard

Very good red, full bodied yet smooth with lots of taste

19th February 2024 | Gerard Martin

This is my (ahem) 3rd purchase of this wine and it won't be my last! There are definite notes of berry (blackberry?) and it is smooth and easy to drink with just a hint of chocolate. I'm no wine connoisseur but this really is outstanding value for money and thoroughly enjoyable to drink :)

19th February 2024 | Kate

Bought 6 bottles of 2018 vintage and should buy more, so bought a dozen this time. It's definitely one of the best under $30 Bordeaux red, especially if you decant say 30 to 40 mintues.

19th February 2024 | Michael Ma

Great drop slips down to easily.

19th February 2024 | PM Cooper

A delicious red that we enjoyed a great deal. Was excellent to drink now and could age some more also. A nice one to have in the cellar!
