Description
Craggy Range’s long-term goal is to create world class reds to rival the great Grand Crus of Bordeaux. Sophia is their flagship Merlot-dominant blend, showcasing the exuberant aromatics of the Gimblett Gravels with no-expense-spared winemaking. A wine to cellar 15-20 years, it’s velvety, densely packed and stunningly pure.
Smells
A thrilling bouquet showing plum liqueur, pencil shavings, graphite, leather and black olive, the wine at once very youthful but with a maturity of spirit that gives you a glimpse into its long future.
Tastes
Silky and luxurious in the mouth, the harmony is impressive for such a young wine, the tannins very finely integrated with the wall of dark fruits and spices. Already very enjoyable, as we had heard the 2014 Prestige wines were, this is no one-night stand… look for a long and prosperous relationship to bloom if you get enough bottles to cellar through 2030.
