Description
The second release from the ‘Royal Series’, Quartz Reef, from their Bendigo Estate Vineyard, BioGro certified organic and Demeter certified biodynamic from 24year old vines. Selected to celebrate Quartz Reef’s 21 years in Bendigo, Central Otago. This was certainly a standout wine in our recent Fine Wine Annual Pinot Noir Tasting, scoring 95 points. Another stellar release from superstar winemaker Rudi Bauer. A wine that is very youthful right now, no rush to drink and will benefit from 10-15 years in a temperature-controlled cellar.
Smells
complex aromas of brown spice lightly heated in a pan, fennel, red and black liquorice, with an almost lifted spearmint twist with a core perfume of strawberries and other red fruits.
Tastes
a seductive Pinot showing some forest floor and savoury complexity interwoven with the core of crunch red cherries and cranberries. The tannins grip firmly, giving support and density to the complex fruit. A wine that will age well and needs time to show it in its best light.
