Description
Arguably the most proven Pinot Noir in New Zealand alongside its neighbour Ata Rangi, Martinborough Vineyard Home Block Pinot Noir is quite clearly built to last. Noticeably restrained and tight on first pour, this needs air to show its full kaleidoscope of aromas and flavours. A superlative vintage in Martinborough, this is a benchmark wine to enjoy from 2024 through 2038.
Smells
At first restrained, the more air it gets the more the floral and spice notes are to the fore, with cherry stones, strawberries and plum notes and a kiss of star anise.
Tastes
Very focused and linear on first inspection, you can feel the concentration waiting to unfurl as the core of fruit awaits the cellar. Gorgeously silky with tantalising tannins, this is a gorgeous glass of wine now with some time in the decanter, but time in the cellar will show why Martinborough Vineyard is one of this country's most sought after producers.
