D’Arenberg, a legendary stalwart of McLaren Vale, South Australia, is renowned worldwide for its exceptional Shiraz, especially The Dead Arm Shiraz. But their Roussanne, a Rhône white variety, has its own charming story. In the late 90s, D’Arenberg planted their first Roussanne vines, only to find the crop covered in tiny ‘Money Spiders.’ Popular belief held that kindness to these creatures would bring good luck, so they were left undisturbed. Miraculously, the spiders relocated by the next season, paving the way for the first release of Money Spider Roussanne in 2001. The Money Spider Roussanne 2022 lives up to its reputation, delivering exceptional quality on every level. It’s an outstanding wine, true to its heritage and over-delivering in every sip.

It reminds me of an olden day Hunter Valley Semillon, a rich, oily bouquet of freshly cut straw, dripping melted butter, lemon, and lime skin with toasty, vanilla hints.

A rich concentrated palate with great length, balance, and energy. Those oily, viscous textures give wonderful mouthfeel balanced by the straw, beeswax, ripe stone fruit and rock melon flavours. Delicious drinking now with cheese or canapes and for optimal drinking pleasure serve between 10-13 degrees.
