Description

When Sacred Hill was bought by the new owners last year they inherited a backlog of vintages, we helped them clear and are now pretty much up to date with vintage releases. Last year we cleared the 2020 Gunn Estate Reserve Pinot Gris down from $17.99… with its pedigree and Reserve level winemaking it went down a treat at $10.99. We cleared all 500 dozen pretty quickly and almost 12-months on get asked “do you have anymore” - “can you get some more at the same price”? We optimistically went back to the winery and put a proposal to them… if we buy 500 dozen of the current 2022 vintage, would you match the 2020 CLEARANCE price? After a bit of back and forth… they agreed to supply us 500 dozen 2022 to sell exclusively to FWD customers at $11.99, just $1 more, but $6.00 less than the elsewhere price of $17.99. This 2022 is perfect for the judicious buyer. Grapes were harvested in the cool of the morning, delivered quickly to the winery to ensure minimal colour and tannin extraction. The grapes were lightly pressed, allowed to settle, and clarified. The juice was fermented with selected yeast to capture pure Pinot Gris aromas and flavours. The ferment was stopped early to give a plush, rich, off-dry palate.

Smells

Aromas of oven-baked pear crumble, with an overlay of jasmine flowers, crystallised ginger and spices.

Tastes

The palate is full-bodied dominated by pear, with hints of stonefruit. Nutmeg and ginger add charm to the luscious fruit balanced with light acidity and lingering slightly sweet pear flavours. A delicious end of day or lunchtime wine, great with seared rare tuna, sashimi, lightly curried hapuka, cheeses too. Great drinking now through 2024.

We taste, rate & guarantee every wine we sell.
