Description

An historic icon of Australian wine, Pewsey Vale Contours is a rich, complex, full-bodied, dry expression of old vine hillside grown Riesling. On the palate it unfolds with beautiful concentration, power, texture, and seamless balance. Jancis Robinson describes Pewsey Vale Riesling as “one of South Australia’s most admired wine treasures.” Andrew Caillard Master of Wine says… “A beautiful example of Eden Valley Riesling showing the fidelity of vineyard site and masterful winemaking”. James Suckling says... “So vibrant for its age... very long and compact finish that suggests this has at least a further decade of aging potential”. Finally, Decanter World Wine Awards Judges in London gave it 97/100 and a “Platinum Best in Show” Trophy placing it in the World’s Top 50 wines. Aged 7-years, easily another decade of aging ahead. I took a bottle home and treasured a hedonistic pre dinner wine experience, I had to put a case in my cellar.

Smells

A complex bouquet of Kaffir lime leaves and skin, with hints of toasted brioche and ripe citrus.

Tastes

Rich, complex, full-bodied wine on the palate with concentration, power, balance, and an impressive mineral thread that laces the elements and seduces the taste buds. Lime spice and wet stone flavours persist on the palate with fine ripe citrus, a chalky texture and a lemon acidity cleansing the palate. Gorgeous drinking now and hard to resist once tasted but will age a decade with ease under screwcap if well stored. Perfect with fresh seafood or a ripe cheese selection… even more perfect to sit, sup and contemplate.
