Description
Rippon is all about the massive slab of metamorphic schist rock that abides beneath the vineyard. With over 30 years of wine growing now to draw on with first Rolf and now Nick and Jo Mills, this new generation is mastering the art of making fantastic wines from both old and young vines. Jeunesse literally translates as ‘Young vines’ where this Riesling still gets all the love and attention in the vineyard and winery, and where we get to benefit from the lesser price tag. One sip and you will be hooked.
Smells
Wet rock, lemon zest, white flowers, and nougat.
Tastes
Lime juice freshly crushed in a mortar and pestle made of schist, the soil and the energy of the site are evident in this taut and linear Riesling. The purity, pristine balance, concentration and length are nothing less than mesmerising, highlighting the class of the 2021 vintage and that these young vines are starting to reach some level of maturity. Enjoy in its youth or cellar for 10 years with confidence. Serve with fresh oysters or your favourite creamy, cheese selection.
