Description
Waipara is the undisputed home of Riesling within NZ, the free draining gravel soils and the long dry autumns produce wines of unbelievable character, intensity and poise. This Tongue in Groove Riesling highlights the exceptional wines coming from this region. The winemaker was previously at Pegasus Bay for years and year, hence Riesling is in her veins. A funky label with very serious wines within. The grapes were foot-stomped, soaked overnight, pressed, fermented using natural yeast and made into a dry style. Think a rich, oily, dry white wine offering the perfect aperitif or serve with the first course, fresh fish, or a lively summer salad.
Smells
a perfumed bouquet of apricots, kaffir lime, beeswax, fennel seeds underpinned by orange blossom, mandarin peel, and lifted spices.
Tastes
This is not your average Riesling, Jim, not as we know it…. Rather a delicious, rich, dry white wine with honeyed, orange and lime flavours, showing some evidence of dried botrytis adding complexity and richness to the palate. A very concentrated wine with a few years bottle development, offering superb drinking now through 2024.
