- Millton Clos de Ste Anne Naboth's Vineyard Chardonnay 2019 $80.99
Naboth's Vineyard is situated on a steep north east facing slope set into the foothills of Poverty Bay. It's first to see the sun, and the Millton's see this reflected in the wine which glows with luminosity and smells like gold! Cuttings for this site were 'appropriated' by James from none other than legendary Burgundy Grand Cru vineyard, Corton Charlemagne.
Hand-picked from some of their oldest vines originally planted in 1980, and gently pressed to french barriques for natural fermentation - using the yeasts found naturally occurring in the vineyard. Left to age on its spent lees for ten months gives this vibrant wine a rich mouthfeel and layers of complexity and texture.
Exotic perfumes of acorn, almond and vanilla entice, with a full rich palate that's almost chewy there's so many layers, and finished with a vibrant natural acidity adding to its incredibly lengthy finish. This is a wine of great elegance and finesse and yet, the concentration is simply breath-taking.
With an undeniable reputation as one of NZ's most 'Grand Cru like' Chardonnay, this 2019 is a new world classic, and a collector's dream - no cellar will be complete without it!
- Millton Clos de Ste Anne The Crucible Syrah 2019 $80.99
The Crucible refers to a bowl-like section, high up on the slopes within the Clos de Ste Anne vineyard. It is completely sheltered from the elements on all sides by its topography, facing north west for optimal ripening.
Hand-harvested bunches were chilled prior to de-stemming, and naturally fermented in 1000 litre wooden cuves. Hand plunged every eight hours, and co-fermented with a 5% portion of whole cluster Viognier, just as they do in the Rhone.
Sensual and stylish with ripe violet, currants, blackcurrant and hints of dark chocolate. This is a masterpiece Syrah with pretty fruit up front, that leads you down a darker exotic spice path to a haunting and sensual finish.
James says it best when he describes this wine as "Black as thunder, and sweet as a teenage kiss"
This is a stunning Syrah, made by a master craftsman himself. This stunning Kiwi Syrah will rival the finest Cote-Rotie in your cellar ... just make sure you buy it before it gets snapped up!
