In an era when women were excluded from the business world, she dared to assume the head of the company, a role she undertook with passion and determination. Madame Clicquot’s character might be summarized with two words: audacious and intelligent. Madame Clicquot shared her husband’s passion for Champagne and sadly due to his untimely death after only 7 years of marriage, she quickly took the reins. Nothing short of inspirational all round, a woman, working in a man’s world back then, took this Champagne House to new heights. A testament to hard work, passion, and a go-get-it attitude. Inspiring to us all…. If you can afford to spend a little more, Vintage Champagne offers excellent value for money, from the top 20% of vineyards in the region. Combine this with the fabulous 2012 vintage and it’s a win, win. A cooler, slightly problematic growing season, resulted in low yields, but finished with a superb Indian summer, allowing perfect ripening, all resulting in what is widely acknowledged as one of the greatest vintages in decades.

a delicate bouquet filled with Mirabelle (yellow plums) tart, citrus peel, warm roasted pears with hints of cashew, and almonds with slight vanilla and woody notes due to the addition of 11% of the base wine aged in large wooden casks.

The palate has a fresh and lively attack, giving way to a creamy texture, where flavours of green apples, lemon zest persist initially, leading to red berry fruit, due to the Pinot Noir (51%) portion in the blend. The long, lingering finish has divine toasty, nutty appeal due to barrel maturation. Wonderful drinking now and one to cellar for 5-8 years+ and perfect with olives, cured meats and cheese.
