Description
A classified third growth, located in Cantenac within the most prestigious Medoc appellation of Margaux. Founded by a Scotsman, John Lewis Brown, over 200 years ago, who selected the best parcels of land, combined with his hard work ethic were richly rewarded in the 1855 classification system, ranking Cantenac Brown amongst the most esteemed vineyards of Bordeaux. Perhaps a little controversy exists in its past, but today however Chateau Cantenac Brown is one of the rising stars of Margaux, capturing the essences of femininity, characteristic of the appellation. The vineyard soils consist of gravel and sand and where Cabernet Sauvignon accounts for 65% of the 48 hectares under vine, with the remainder 30% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc.
Smells
waves of perfume excite the nostrils with floral notes, truffles, coffee, tobacco, all underpinned by dark and red fruits.
Tastes
full bodied, round, luscious yet with poise and energy, creating excitement on the tongue from the first taste. Flavours of forest floor, bitter-chocolate, black cherries, dark plums and hints of blackcurrant give way to coffee, leather and spice and a well-integrated toasty, oak influence. Dark, brooding, yet charming and feminine, classical, and high end and well worth investing in a few bottles for the cellar.
