Description
A third growth form Margaux with an interesting history, even including scandal along the way. Earliest records date back to 1330, making fortified wines and with the first reference to the Giscours vineyard in 1552. A winery that is also renown for revolutionary practices back in the day, such as using gravity and that was in the late 1800’s, unheard of back then. An estate of intrigue, revolutionary practices as well as mastering quality, and consistency. Since 1995 Chateau Giscours has gone from strength to strength especially with managing director, Alexander van Beek at the helm. A stunning example of a classical Bordeaux style especially in these warmer times.
Smells
a heady, floral perfume lifts from the glass, combining red and dark fruits with violets and toasty, dusty, cedar nuances.
Tastes
big, bold, and explosive in the glass with flavours of blackcurrant, mulberry, truffle, black olive, hints of oyster shell, forest floor and bitter chocolate. A full-bodied wine with added layers of complexity, texture, and intrigue. Dense and broad yet has finely grained tannins and fresh acidity.
Powerful, polished, and stylish, with violet, and lilac notes driving through the long, lingering finish. Will easily cellar 20years+ in temperature-controlled conditions.
